Red & light grey positive films ready for stencil making.

Exposure of the stencil film.

Open vacuum frame and take out stencil film.

Harden the stencil gelatine with hydrogen peroxide.

Wash out with warm water the areas to print through.

Apply to a screen & blot out excess water.

Dry off.

Put the screen on the bench find register & mask out around the bits to be printed.

Put the prints on the rack to dry.

Light grey stencil.

Set up & print light grey.

Red & light grey on the rack.

Positives for dark grey & black.

Exposure dark grey stencil.

Dark grey set up.

Red light grey & dark grey on the rack.

Black stencil.

Finished.

Set up and print white onto ply blanks.

Film positives for the grey, red & black.

Expose stencil to U.V. using film positives.

Wash out unhardened bits off the stencil with warm water. then chill the stencil with cold water and position on a screen.

Blot out the excess water with paper.

Dry stencil.

Strip backing from stencil.

Stick positive to a blank to find position through the screen.

Set up & print grey.

Set up & print red.

Set up & print black.

These will be cut out by Quintessentials Folkestone.

Old black & white photograph.

Film positives taken from the photo.

Stencil being exposed to U.V. Light.

Stencils applied to screen having the water blotted out with paper.

Stencils drying.

Set up for first colour.

Print orange to be sodium lit sky.

By running orange & clear base I make it dark to light from the top to the bottom of the print.

I decided to paint out the sky & run the bottom again in blue + base.

Below is the third time pull, purple base & blue.

Fourth pull slightly stronger purple to blue.

Fifth pull stronger again.

Sixth & last pull black to grey.

I decided that the white in the sky was to bright so I washed in some yellow.

Finished print image size 293mm x 203mm. in an edition of 90 prints.

Pre-coated screen with film positive attached going into the vacuum frame.

Stencil being exposed to U.V. light.

Stencil washed out and drying.

Set up & print.

Under side of the screen with black ink filling the stencil ready for the next pull.

Printed shirt feeding into drying convyor.

Black onto olive green shirt.

Black onto khaki shirt.

Black onto grey shirt.

Film Positives

Coated screen on the glass with the positive.

Extract the air to pull everything up tight.

Expose to U.V. light.

Wash out the stencil.

Set up & print the back.

Feed through dryer.

Set up & print front.

Stencil exposed

Getting the correct position on the screen for the print using the film positive.

Pouring hydrogen peroxide onto the stencil to harden the exposed areas.

Washing out the unexposed areas of the stencil using warm water.

Putting the stencil onto a wet screen.

Blotting the water out of the stencil and pressing the stencil into the screen mesh.
